HÀ NỘI — The Việt Nam Artificial Intelligence Day 2024 (AI4VN) opened in Hà Nội on Friday with a plenary session highlighting the remarkable strides made by Việt Nam in artificial intelligence (AI).

UNESCO Representative Jonathan Wallace Baker commended Việt Nam's commitment to realising its national strategy for AI research, development and application, noting the Ministry of Science and Technology's issuance of guidelines for responsible AI research and development.

He expressed optimism about the positive impact of AI in Việt Nam, given the established framework for responsible use.

UK Ambassador to Việt Nam Iain Frew said the event’s theme “Unlocking the Power of Generative AI” underscores the AI’s potential to address global challenges through innovative methods. The UK is committed to advancing AI responsibly and unlocking new possibilities for this transformative technology.

He also highlighted significant collaboration between the UK and Việt Nam in AI across health care, software development, and cybersecurity, with 15 UK tech companies visiting Việt Nam earlier this year to explore cooperation opportunities.

Meanwhile, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea (RoK) to Việt Nam Choi Youngsam expressed the RoK’s readiness to assist Việt Nam through ODA projects, global multilateral cooperation, the establishment of new AI standards and sharing of both the AI’s potential and challenges.

Renée Deschamps, Chargé d'Affaires at the Australian Embassy in Việt Nam, also expressed Australia’s commitment to partnering with Việt Nam in developing responsible AI, ensuring that AI technologies are used ethically to benefit the society.

In collaboration with Vietnamese universities, the Australian experts have developed a framework for responsible AI use, aligning it with both global and Vietnamese standards to promote more responsible AI practices, she said. — VNS
